  • Abort, Retry, Fail?

If, like me, you love history and really have an unhealthy love of wallowing in computing nostalgia, then you’ll love Abort Retry Fail.

I stumbled across Bradford Morgan White’s website documenting the history of the computing industry a while back and immediately started losing time like a supporting character on the X-Files.

Some highlights to look out for include The History of Windows 2000, in my opinion the best version of Windows – all been downhill from there! and The Story of Napster which was surely one of the most interesting and exciting periods in the industry’s history.

Grab yourself your favourite drink, crack open the MacBook or fire up the iPhone (wait – you’re not using an Apple product?) and knock yourself out.

    You can thank me later.

  • In the Be-ginning…

    … there was BeOS

In class today we had a great discussion on historical UNIX-like Operating Systems, particularly Jean-Louis Gassee’s BeOS.

Which of course, we followed up with a discussion on Haiku, the BeOS-like Open Source OS.

I’m really rooting for Haiku – I love this project!
